API-U QUALIFIED OFFSHORE CRANE OPERATOR – API RP 2D
AIMS AND OUTCOMES
This course will provide the skills necessary to safely operate Offshore Cranes, perform daily inspections, assess rigging safety, properly communicate with riggers and supply vessels during lifts, and to ensure overall safety during material handling/lifting processes. Those attending this training will learn crane operating principles, operational safety, load control methods, inspection procedures, communications and critical load handling. Operation of an Offshore Crane and/or Simulator will be required to complete the course.
Completion of this course will qualify the candidate for Competency Assessment under API Recommended Practise 2D 7th Edition, Offshore Crane Operator Qualification procedures.
This course will provide the skills and knowledge necessary for the candidate to begin to function in the capacity of an offshore crane operator. Persons will be qualified to perform routine lifts, and serve in the capacity as a designated signal person (DSP) for other qualified crane operators. This training will also provide the individual with Basic Rigging knowledge and skills, but does not qualify him/her to perform rigging or to operate overhead cranes, jacks, winches, come-a-longs or other lifting devices.
To successfully complete this training, the student will be expected to complete practical hands-on exercises and pass a written theoretical examination.

Students will receive an API – U certification issued by ATC Offshore upon course completion and passing exams. Theoretical test pass mark is set at 80%.
